INGREDIENTS:
Serves 4 people
Black Garlic Gouda Meatballs
- 20 oz ground chicken or turkey
- 4 oz Artikaas Youngsters Black Garlic Gouda finely grated
- 1 shallot minced
- 2 cloves of garlic grated
- 1/4 cup ricotta cheese
- 1/2 cup unseasoned Italian breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 2-3 sprigs of thyme leaves removed and finely minced.
Sauce
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 small onion minced
- 4 garlic cloves minced
- 28 oz canned crushed tomatoes
- 3-4 sprigs of thyme leaves removed and added stems discarded
- 4-5 oz Artikaas Black Garlic Youngsters Gouda grated
HOW TO MAKE IT:
- In a bowl, combine the ground chicken, grated Artikaas Black Garlic Youngsters Gouda, shallot, grated garlic, ricotta cheese, breadcrumbs, egg, and thyme. Season generously with two heavy pinches of salt.
- Thoroughly combine the mixture with your hands, then divide and form 12 meatballs.
- In a large oven-proof sauté pan or braiser, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium-low heat. Once hot, add the onion and cook for 1 minute. Then, add the garlic and cook for 2-3 minutes, until soft and fragrant.
- Pour in the sauce and add the thyme leaves, bringing it to a simmer. Once simmering, add the meatballs and generously top with more grated gouda cheese.
- Place the pan in the oven and bake at 400°F for 20 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through. Remove from the oven. Serve and enjoy!
